LEGAL Management sophomore Maria Carmina Valdes represented the University at the third United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Youth Peace Ambassador Training Workshop in Penang, Malaysia last November 28 to December 1.
Valdes, along with other Philippine delegates from the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde and Lyceum of the Philippines University, participated in the four-day workshop that focused on the issues of “cross-cultural aspects of peace education, human security, multicultural societies, knowledge production and use, peace and conflict resolution, sustainability, and ethics of science and technology.”
A series of lectures were held to aid the participants in developing action plans that will contribute in the promotion of peace education in their own communities.
Valdes developed her action plan concentrating on awareness regarding animal cruelty.
“[The action plan] starts within the Philippines. I am hoping that it will eventually create a youth network that will fight for my cause,” Valdes said.
Over 110 participants from the Asia pacific region joined the workshop. Previous Youth Peace Ambassador Training Workshops were conducted in Japan and Cambodia. F
